Empowering change one skill at a time.

The Mendes Educational & Self-Help Organisation of Africa is a PBO (public benefit organisation) supporting remote rural communities across Southern Africa through practical skills training programs in areas where there is no access to colleges or universities to further their education to enable and empower themselves.

Inspiring transformation through education.

Litening to, and working with the communities we service, to help them achieve their goals of creating opportunities to obtain skills training in areas which barely have basic education.

Most rural areas of Africa often lack proper infrastructure and very few offer the possibility of an education past high school, which often leads to high unemployment rates and a lot of competition for part time unskilled labour jobs that do not pay a living wage.

Further education is virtually impossible as universities and colleges are too far away to get to every day in a world where the majority of these communities still live in mud and thatch housing.

Many of these communities have undeveloped land which is reserved for educational purposes, but the funding to develop permanent facilities for the community to be trained in. The community in Chicumbane, Mozambique was eager to spread the news and by the next day, we had 13 students wanting to learn how to sew, even if it was under a tree.

Planning the development of a permanent training centre was started and the community is eager to get started. Other types of skills training will be offered as classrooms are completed and the trainers join us.
